FLOOD DRAMA AT DUNLOP YARD
By Dave Ord
Harry Dunlop was forced to evacuate his yard as flood waters hit Lambourn on Friday.
At around 2pm his Windsor House stables saw the water levels reach three or four foot in areas.
Staff were recalled from their afternoon break and SOS calls were put out to other local trainers for emergency stabling.
Tor Sturgis and John Hills very kindly came up with enough stabling between them to take 20 horses.
LRT became the 4th emergency service and managed to batttle their way to the yard to help transport the horses to their new homes.
Dunlop said, "It was terrfiying how quickly the waters rose and by the time we got the last one out it was up to 4ft high. I would like to thank both Tor and John for being so kind to provide alternative stabling which meant the horses could be quickly resettled and did not have to be exposed to the rain for any length of time.
"Merrick Francis and his team at LRT were outstanding in their fast response to transporting the horses away from the flood area and hleping to prevent would could have been a very dangerous siutation. Finally thank you to all the staff at Windsor House Stables who didn't hesitate in plunging into the flood waters to save their horses."
All horses are reported to have survived unscathed and happily ensconced in their temporary accommodation. _________________ http://www.artforums.co.uk |
